Standing at the crossroads,
Needing to listen to the Father
To show us which way.
As we come into HIs Presence we find ourselves at a crossroads. Look for the ancient paths and follow. This is a paradox of Christ; we are expecting something new, yet we are to look for the ancient paths. At first, I thought for me it meant the ancient Celtic Paths the way of the ancient britons, but I believe it goes back even further than that. God is known as the Ancient One, the One who was and is and is to come. He is and will always be. To look for the ancient paths we have to go back to the beginning of time. To look for the ancient paths means to look for God in everything and to look for His ways: the way of truth; the way of knowledge of Him; the way of love; the way of righteousness; the way of intimacy with the living God, the way of Life. God, through His Word, Jesus (John 1:1ff), shows us His way.
Christ was giving us something new and something old at the same time. He put the ten commandments into two. First love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul and mind, second love your neighbour as you love yourself. Who is our neighbour? Anybody in need of help? (Luke 10:25-37 the parable of ‘The Good Samaritan’). If we love our neighbour we will not want to kill, to covet, to steal, to disrespect our parents. We will not worship any idol in God’s place, nor want to take the Lord’s name in vain. We will keep the Sabbath holy, and we won’t want to bear false witness, or commit adultery (Exodus 20:1-17). The ancient paths go back way before the time of Moses and the law; to Adam and Abraham. Jesus did not come to annihilate the law of Moses, but to fulfil it. So now we don’t do these things because we’re under the law, but because we love God, we know sin is still sin and still hurts God. He is first a God of righteousness before He is a God of love. I thank God for the Christ, who came as the Sacrificial Lamb, once and for all, to intercede for us with His Father…our Father. We have been adopted into His family, (Galatians 3:26-4:L7)
