Praying through the seasons

I praise You Father:
I praise You on the mountain top
I praise You in the valley
I praise You by the river
I praise You by the sea
I praise You in a bird’s song
I praise You when I see a squirrel
Scurrying up a tree.

I praise You when the snow
Gently carpets everything in white
I praise You when fingers of frost
Crisp and cold beneath my feet
Nips at my fingers and toes
Clinging to everything in sight –
The roofs of houses
Bushes and trees,
Changing the world for an instance
With its magic.

I praise You at the first signs of spring
When new life is beginning
To show itself,
When Easter arrives
And resurrection comes forth from the cross.
I praise You in the birth of a new-born lamb,
A foal running alongside his mother,
A baby bird learning to fly.

I praise You in the maturity of summer,
A dragonfly skimming across the river.
An old tree grand and majestic,
Fully clothed in a beautiful green coat,
Planted by streams of living water –
As the Holy Spirit comes to us
Guiding us, teaching us,
Spiritually feeding us,
As we come to Christian maturity.

I praise You as the autumn
Heralds the end of the old year,
Colours so grand –
Golds, reds, oranges and browns –
Layering the forest floor.
Trees against the sky
In amongst a shrouding mist
The way You Holy Spirit
Wish to cover us,
No tapestry comes near.

I praise You in everything
A friend’s joy,
A friend’s pain,
Or a foe
As we hold out our hands
Coming alongside –
Sharing in everything
Taking this to You in prayer
Feeling with them
As You feel their pain –
Words fail me.
Interceding with the Holy Spirit
I interceding along with Christ
interceding and taking it to the Father.
